What’s In Your Soap?

16 Apr

It seems that many people still do not understand the benefits of vegetable based, handmade soaps.  I have had people at Craft Events come up to me and comment on my sign that says” Our soaps are good for your skin.”  They say to me “Really!  I thought they just looked pretty and smell nice”  Then I go on to tell them how they contain all of their natural glycerin, and how many of the oils have benefits to their skin.  Our handmade soaps all contain a very high percentage of Olive Oil.  You will notice that this is the first ingredient on all of our soap labels.

Olive oil, is not only benefical in your diet, but has many skin benefits too!

Here are just some of the benefits;

Rich in Vitamin E and Beta Carotene, Helps to stimulate new skin cell growth, It is extremely mild and may be helpful to people with skin conditions.  It is also an antioxidant.

Another fine ingredient we add to our soaps is Coconut Oil.  This is always the second ingredient you will find on our soap labels.  Coconut Oil produces soft creamy lather.  It also helps to make the soap white and is a great cleaning agent.

The third ingredient in our soap is Sustainable Palm Oil.  (Due to our concerns that the production of Palm Oil by some manufacturers is causing damage to the environment and those that live among it, we only purchase Palm Oil that is from a Certified Sustainable source, which must meet strict standards to ensure it is being produced in a way that is healthy to the environment.)  Palm Oil helps to make a harder long-lasting soap.  Also a very good skin care oil. Palm Oil is very high in fatty acids, Vitamin E, Vitamin K and magnesium. (Some soap makers use Tallow, which comes from animals, instead of Palm.)

Other oils we use in our soap are Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Sunflower Oil, Neem Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Emu Oil which is only used in our unscented Luxury Emu Soap.  These are all Luxury Oils than have many skin benefits.

So when you purchase a handmade soap from Mountain Farms Soap, you can be sure that you are getting a quality bar of soap, that if used properly (not left in water) will last you a very long time, and is kind to your skin and the environment.  Just one more note, – our bars are Big.  Weighing in most cases 150 grams or more, we feel you get good value for your money.

So please check your labels and know what you are putting onto your skin, the body’s largest organ.~Darlene
